Welcome to our class blogsite.
You will find two digital stories that have been published this year and blog a critical reflection for each. Be sure to add a link to the digital story in your blog.
You will then provide a third critical reflection of a digital story; however, this 200-word blog will respond to a class member’s choice of digital story and your blog will address that class member’s choice and interpretation. This third task, should not be considered a "critical" response in the traditional sense. You will not write in the third person about your classmate's ability to interpret story, but rather provide an invitation to "dialogue" with that classmate and open a dialogue for others to contribute. You are to try and expand upon that classmate's interpretation. A dialogue is not the point-counterpoint "discussion" that we typically engage. A dialogue serves to grow the thought base; you are encouraged to join in and add your ideas to existing dialogues.
For this third critical reflection, you will provide a link to your classmate's blogsite. Two hundred words per reflection is enough.
You will then design and prepare for presentation your own digital story. Combining images, photos, symbols, audio, text into a PowerPoint platform is plenty sophisticated for this project. You will post this presentation to our cr241 blog.
The following are projects that will satisfy the digital story assignment, but you are not limited to these suggestions if you find something on the WEB that inspires you to try something different
- A Children’s Book
- A contextualized collage or montage that develops some semblance of an idea, or maybe experiments with reinventing the traditional story elements and devices, such as dimensional character, motif, or narrative arc. Consider the two digital stories we viewed in class. As Andrew pointed out, these two stories could be interpreted as theme and variation on the human epic. Similar to many of the stories in our flash fiction text, you are not bound to a traditional narrative, but allowed to experiment. For this experiment you are assuredly attending to compression, impressions, and conveying essential ideas.
- Soundscape Story
- In 15 slides, create a character, and/or narrative arc through the use of quotes and relevant images. Keep in mind that this is not a collection of your favorite quotes and images. You are creating a holistic impression.
- A 30-second Kinetic Typography Narrative
