  1. Kesia--excellent choice. Yes--for all the reasons you have done an excellent job elaborating upon, this ingenious book, after what, 35 years (?) is very relevant to the challenges facing today's youth. Perhaps that is why the author and illustrator are again co-opting on another children's book.
Schools spend a lot of money choosing textbooks that are full of stories that can be digested start to finish in a 50 minute period. However, chapter books such as The Phantom intersect with a youth's conscious and subconscious life, even when the book is left on the night stand. The adventure, the puzzles, the humor, that generous puns upon words and language keeps a young person's mind busy. It is difficult to get college-aged students to engage in "critical thinking", a real world survival skill, if they do not have a literary foundation that involves ingenious "thinking" books that they have experienced at 4th - 6th grades. I was probably 10 or 11 when this terrific and hilarious journey with a strange and wonderful landscape and language affected my life. Thank you for this awesome submission!

P.s. You will be signing up for Journalism 280. Patrick Platt is the internship coordinator we will work with. We will be meeting 1-3 MWF's...and I will let you know where.
